ॐ आञ्जनेयाय विद्महे
वायुपुत्राय धीमहि
तन्नो हनुमत् प्रचोदयात् ॥

The Childhood Miracle

As a baby, Hanuman mistook the sun for a fruit and flew to grab it. Indra struck him with a thunderbolt, breaking his jaw (hence the name Hanuman – “one with broken jaw”). Various gods then blessed him:

• Vayu (wind) granted superspeed

• Agni (fire) made him immune to burning

• Brahma gave immunity to weapons

• Shiva bestowed immortality
